Stop Snoring. Sleep Better.

Snoring Relief for the Gulf Coast: The Snoring Center Opens Mississippi Office

OCEAN SPRING, December 6, 2011- The Snoring Center, the nation’s leading provider of minimally invasive, office-based treatment for snoring and sleep apnea, including the Pillar Procedure from Medtronic, announced the addition of a Gulf Coast center to open January 6th, 2012.

Dr. Ray Weiss, a Board Certified Otolaryngologist, will serve as Medical Director of the Snoring Center’s Ocean Spring location, serving patients along the Gulf Coast,  from Mobile, Alabama to New Orleans, Louisiana.

“I am proud to be able to bring relief to patients with the support of The Snoring Center,” said Dr. Weiss.  “Dr. Schwimmer is working to improve quality of life for patients all of the world. Continuing to expand The Snoring Center team into new markets allows ease of access for the men and women seeking minimally invasive, office-based snoring and sleep apnea treatment and I am glad to be a part of it.”

A graduate of the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio, Dr. Weiss completed his otolaryngology residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

Dr. Weiss is an expert in the use of minimally invasive, office based procedures in Otolaryngology, and is co-founder of the Foundation for Innovation, Education and Research in Otolaryngology.

“We continue to find innovative professionals like Dr. Weiss to join our team and help achieve our mission to change the way people think about snoring and other sleep-related disorders,” said Dr. Craig Schwimmer, MD, MPH, FACS, Medical Director and CEO of The Snoring Center. “Our physicians are senstive to the impact that snoring and sleep apnea have on people’s lives. Traditional treatment options do not adequately meet the needs of many patients. We are able to provide minimally invasive, office-based treatment for those unable to tolerate a cumbersome breathing apparatus. At The Snoring Center, our mission is to ensure that patients understand ALL their treatment options, so that they can choose the options that best suit their individual needs.”

Dr. Schwimmer cites research linking lack of sleep with everything from fatigue and short tempers, to decreased job performance and auto accidents, from high blood pressure and obesity to diabetes.  The Snoring Center’s advancements in minimally invasive snoring and sleep apnea treatment help provide practical solutions to the millions of couples impacted by snoring, and sleep apnea.

Specially trained, Board Certified Ear, Nose and Throat doctors at the Snoring Center offer a variety of treatment options, allowing for customized treatment based on each patient’s anatomy and circumstances. These treatment options include the Pillar Procedure from Medtronic, Reduction of the Nasal Turbinates, Soft Palate Reduction and Laser Tonsil Ablation, as well as the use of oral appliances.

The Pillar Procedure involves the placement of woven inserts into the soft palate. Over time, the body’s natural tissue response to the inserts increases the structural integrity of the soft palate, thereby reducing the vibration that causes snoring and sleep apnea. More than 40,000 people worldwide have been treated with Medtronic’s Pillar Procedure, and The Snoring Center has performed more Pillar Procedures than any other practice in the world.

Reduction of the Nasal Turbinates is a quick, well-tolerated procedure that applies radiofrequency energy to shrink nasal tissue, enlarging the nasal airway. This is often an important component of treatment of sleep-disordered breathing. Because the tissue that is reduced is the same tissue involved in nasal allergy symptoms, this procedure is also effective in providing years of relief to nasal allergy sufferers.

The Snoring Center also offers Home Sleep Studies as an alternative to traditional, lab-based tests. These home-based studies are significantly less expensive, more convenient, and often preferred by patients because they are done in the comfort of one’s own bed. This convenience and comfort may also allow for a more representative night’s sleep.
